Mayor Rob Ford says he hasn’t consumed any illegal drugs since “probably a year ago.”

Ford made the comment to reporters prior to a meeting with other big city mayors at Ottawa city hall Wednesday morning, admitting that he wasn’t quite clear when he was asked the question by “Today Show” host Matt Lauer during a live interview Tuesday morning.

In the interview, Ford said, “I do not use illegal drugs,” when asked if he had consumed any illegal drugs since vowing to turn his life around in November, mimicking the wording from his now infamous denial of crack cocaine use back in May.

“Maybe I wasn’t quite clear with Matt, but I have not done drugs since probably about a year ago,” he said Wednesday.

Ford vowed to give up alcohol and drugs completely in several interviews in November, but in recent months several incidents have raised questions about his commitment to that promise, including one video which emerged showing a clearly inebriated Ford speaking in Jamaican patois at an Etobicoke restaurant.

“I had a setback. Those days are gone. I think I have made myself quite clear on that,” Ford said when asked if he continued to drink. “I am down 40 pounds, I am training every day and as they would say I am bright eyed and bushy tailed.”
