London police say they are looking into the possibility that the suspect wanted in connection with the murder of Brampton teen Jeremy Cook may have drowned in an Ottawa river.

Muhab Sultanaly Sultan, 23, of Calgary, is wanted for the second-degree murder of 18-year-old Cook, who was shot to death while he attempted to track down his cellphone in London two weeks ago.

In a news release issued Thursday, London police confirmed that they are looking into whether Sultan is the man Ottawa police say went missing in the Rideau River Wednesday night.

According to Ottawa police, at around 4 p.m. yesterday, officers began to pursue a suspect who allegedly tried to run over two cops on bicycles.

Eventually, police say the suspect's vehicle was found abandoned.

Hours later, investigators say residents spotted a suspicious man trying to swim across the Rideau River.

The man, police say, showed signs of distress and the two officers went in after him. When the officers got closer to the man, he had gone under and has not yet been found.

Ottawa police have not yet confirmed the identity of the man.
