The hunt is on for a man wanted for first-degree murder in connection with the death of his mother, police announced Tuesday night.

The announcement comes only hours after the discovery of a woman’s body inside a Woodbine-Lumsden neighbourhood apartment earlier in the day.

According to police, officers responded to an unknown trouble call at an apartment on Cedarvale Avenue, in the Danforth and Woodbine avenues area, at around 12:15 p.m.

At the scene, police found the deceased victim. She has since been identified by police as 65-year-old Linda Scott.

Speaking with CP24 Tuesday night, police said that Scott was stabbed multiple times.

“Judging by the evidence left at the scene, it was a violent attack,” Toronto police Det.-Sgt. Steve Ryan said.

“As to what led up to that, we’re not sure as of yet.”

Police believe Scott was killed sometime over the last two days.

“She was a very, very nice woman – a quiet woman,” neighbour Donna Bailey said of Scott outside the apartment building where she lived earlier Tuesday night.

Police announced they were searching for a suspect in connection with the murder late Tuesday night.

“During the course of this investigation, we’ve sought a warrant for the arrest of her son,” Ryan said.

Justin Scott, 25, is currently wanted for first-degree murder.

He is described by police as white, approximately five-foot-10, roughly 170 pounds, with a muscular build, red hair, and a scar on his neck.

“There is information that he might have shaved his head shortly after the murder,” Ryan said.

He was last seen Monday in the Yonge and Dundas streets area.

“We have no idea where he is at this point,” Ryan said. “We have information that he may have fled to Quebec.”

Police consider him dangerous.

“I would encourage Justin to certainly contact a lawyer, or contact me directly, and to surrender himself,” Ryan said.
