It’s going to be a scorcher of a day in Toronto as thousands of students head back to school following a ruling that teacher strikes in the Durham, Peel and Rainbow district school boards are illegal. Here is a list of everything you need to know as you head out the door.

Weather:

It is going to be another hot day in the city but the summer-like conditions may be broken up with the occasional shower. According to Environment Canada, there is a 60 per cent chance of showers this afternoon and the risk of a thunderstorm later this afternoon. The mercury is expected to hit a high of 26 C before falling to a low of 15 C overnight.

News:

Students who attend high schools in the Durham, Peel and Rainbow district school boards will be returning to the classroom today after the Ontario Labour Relations Board ruled that teachers in all three regions were striking illegally. The OLRB ruling, which was released late Tuesday afternoon, states strikers must immediately cease and desist "their unlawful strike" and not resume for at least two weeks. The board says buses will operate Wednesday but some delays are expected and cafeterias will remain closed.

Police say the death of a man who was found in a Scarborough park earlier this week has now been ruled a homicide. The man was found by a passerby in McCowan Park near Eglinton Avenue and Danforth Road shortly before 10 a.m. on Monday. At the time, police said the man was found lying on his back and appeared to be suffering from stab wounds. Det. Sgt. Mike Carbone will speak with reporters about the investigation at 10:30 a.m.

Two people were taken to hospital with minor burns after a fire completely engulfed a home in Brampton early Wednesday morning. The blaze broke out on the main level of a residence on Horne Drive near Kennedy Road and Williams Parkway shortly after midnight and quickly spread throughout the building. Several nearby homes were then evacuated as a precaution; however crews were able to knock the fire down a short time later.

Sports:

The Blue Jays will look to finish off a sweep of the Chicago White Sox as they finished off their three-game series in a rare weekday matinee at the Rogers Centre. First pitch is scheduled for 12:37 p.m.
