Police have arrested one person suspected of assisting a man wanted in connection with a deadly shooting outside an Etobicoke community centre and have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for another.

Officers have been searching for 23-year-old Reshane Hayles Wilson in connection with the death of Neeko Mitchell since January. On Monday, officers arrested a 28-year-old man and charged him with accessory after the fact to murder for his role in allegedly assisting Hayles Wilson following the murder.

A Canada-wide warrant has also been issued for 28-year-old Kashana Duncan in relation to the same offence.

“There is absolutely no doubt that Mr. Hayles Wilson has and is being aided by others who know he is wanted for murder and are assisting him in avoiding apprehension and prosecution,” Det. Sgt. Brian Borg told reporters Thursday afternoon. “Let me be very clear about this - this is serious and those who willingly do this are placing themselves and their livelihoods at serious risk. Anyone found to be assisting Mr. Hayles Wilson at any point after Neeko Mitchell’s murder will be arrested, charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

Mitchell was gunned down as he stood outside the North Kipling Community Centre on Nov. 24, 2013.

The shooting took place minutes after Mitchell arrived at the community centre to watch his brother play in a community basketball tournament known as “Jam Rock 9,” and police have previously said that a large portion of it was captured by surveillance cameras.

“We took great measures to try to apprehend him (Hayles Wilson) afterwards, I think we were close to apprehending him and at this point I am not comfortable in saying that we know where he is,” Borg said Thursday. “He could be anywhere in Canada or he could have even fled abroad at this point.”

Borg said that Hayles Wilson has been involved with drugs and gangs in the past, but declined comment on the exact nature of that activity.

Tyrone Michael Knott, 28, appeared in court Monday where he was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Reshane Hayles Wilson, or Kashana Duncan, or with information about the homicide, is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
