Police have identified the victim in a fatal shooting in the city’s east end as a 25-year-old man.

The shooting occurred on Eglinton Avenue near Bermondsey Road sometime after 6 p.m. on Friday.

According to police, the victim was in an SUV that was stopped at a traffic light in the area when another SUV pulled up alongside him. Shots were then fired and both vehicles subsequently fled the area.

Investigators said the suspect vehicle fled northbound on Sloane Avenue.

Police say the victim then took himself to hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time after arrival.

The victim has been identified by police as Adrian Thomas.

Det. Brandon Price said investigators believe Thomas was targeted, but the gunfire that killed him could have easily harmed others.

“This could have involved many passersby being injured or killed by the gunfire.”

In a press release issued on Saturday morning, police said that there was “a lot of pedestrian and vehicular traffic in the area at the time” and urged anyone with information to come forward. Police also said that they have reason to believe that the incident, or suspect SUV, was captured by dash cam recorders or cell phones.
