York Regional Police are investigating the death of a nine-month-old child at an unlicensed daycare in Markham.

Police say they were called to a residence Nov. 5 after a girl stopped breathing. The child was rushed to hospital, but doctors were unable to revive her.

A post-mortem exam was conducted Thursday, but no anatomical cause of death was determined, police said.

The coroner’s office is now investigating the child’s death with the help of YRP homicide detectives.

As a matter of course, police investigate the death of any child under five years of age.

Anyone with information is asked to contact York Regional Police at 866-876-5423, ext. 7865 or call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
