York Regional Police say they have issued an arrest warrant for a man suspected of manslaughter in the disappearance and likely death of a 36-year-old Markham woman who was last seen in June.

Ying Chun (Annie) Li was last seen by her family at around 6 p.m. on June 12 in the vicinity of Denison Street and Markham Road.

Her brother, Jet Hu, told investigators that his sister got a text message from someone that night and then told her parents that she was heading out to eat dinner with a friend.

Ying Chun (Annie) Li was last seen by her family at around 6 p.m. on June 12 in the vicinity of Denison Street and Markham Road.

Investigators said Li was last seen by anyone was about one hour later, at a Chinese restaurant in the Richmond Hill area.

Hu said her sister texted that night at about 11 p.m. to say she would be back home in the morning, but never returned.

Police said in July that they were seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a woman who was captured by a surveillance camera and “may have information” about Li’s disappearance.

On Wednesday, police said they now have reason to believe Li is dead.

Investigators have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a man believed to be connected to her disappearance.

A suspect identified as Jiarui (Jerry) Tang is wanted for manslaughter. Police say he is known to frequent the Chinatown neighbourhood and is believed to be somewhere in the GTA.

Const. Laura Nicolle says Tang is believed to be the last person seen with Li, outside of the Chinese restaurant in Richmond Hill. Nicolle says the two knew each other only for a brief period of time before her disappearance.

She would not say if police have located a crime scene.

Tang is asked to turn himself in to police as soon as possible.

If spotted, the public is asked not to approach and call 911 immediately.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7865, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
