Police have released surveillance camera footage that shows the suspect in a fatal shooting outside a west-end bar parking his car near the murder scene and then walking back to it with a gun in hand.

The footage relates to the Oct. 5 shooting of 47-year-old Andrew Surage outside an after-hours bar near Weston Road and Northland Avenue.

Police have previously said that the shooting came after a man approached one of Surage’s friends and ripped a chain off his neck. Surage then intervened and demanded that the suspect return the chain, however the suspect refused and left the area only to come back a short time later with a handgun.

In the footage released on Tuesday, the suspect is shown pulling up to the scene in a 1998 purple Honda Accord, parking and getting out of the vehicle along with two male passengers and one female passenger.

The footage then shows the suspect returning to the vehicle along with one of his male friends, presumably to get his gun.

Another camera then captures the suspect looking around the parking lot in what police believe was an attempt to locate Surage and then heading back towards the club.

The final clips then show the suspect walking back with a gun in his right hand, getting into his vehicle and driving away, narrowly missing two people and then striking a parked car as he drives off.

“Unfortunately most of the people who were there that night fled prior to the police’s arrival. We have been tracking down people but I feel at this stage of the investigation it is appropriate to put this out to the public and see if anyone can identify them,” Det. Sgt. Graham Gibson told reporters on Tuesday morning. “If you were down there and you saw these people and it didn’t tweak anything with you but seeing these images now helps give me a call.”

Gibson would not reveal whether there were any surveillance cameras outside the club itself.

As for a potential motive, Gibson said there appears to be “no rhyme nor reason” for the murder of the father-of-five.

“I don’t know what words were exchanged or how the suspect felt he had to come back but he did. To me it is a cowardly act,” Gibson said. “Mr. Surage and his friends were by all means peaceful. There is no rhyme nor reason as to why he felt he had to come back and shoot Mr. Surage.”
