Mayor Rob Ford was asked to leave an advance voting station on Thursday after he was reportedly spotted campaigning on the site in contravention of city rules.

According to City of Toronto spokesperson Jackie DeSouza, Ford was seen “speaking with electors and having photos taken” at the Driftwood Community Centre near Jane Street and Finch Avenue late Thursday afternoon.

City election officials then advised Ford that campaigning was not permitted within the designated voting location and he left immediately, DeSouza said.

The Municipal Elections Act prohibits candidates from “interfering with voters” in a voting place, “attempting to influence how they vote” or asking them “how they voted.”

It is not immediately clear why Ford visited the poll, which is located east of the ward where he is running for council.
