A troubled airline that cancelled all of its flights and announced that it was “temporarily suspending operations” last week is filing for bankruptcy.

In a letter submitted to the Canadian Transportation Agency on Thursday, a law firm appointed to handle the proceedings confirmed that Canadian-owned SkyGreece Airlines has filed a notice of intention to seek bankruptcy protection.

The move comes eight days after the airline first cancelled flights to and from Pearson International Airport and precisely a week after it confirmed that it was ceasing operations.

“In accordance with the usual practice in court-supervised restructuring proceedings, Ernst & Young Inc., as the trustee under proposal for SkyGreece, will be communicating with creditors (including customers of SkyGreece) and establishing contact points through which creditors can provide and obtain information,” the letter stated.

Sky Greece Airlines, which only operated two planes, was based out of Athens but had an office in Toronto.

The airline only began operating in May and in a statement issued last week it blamed the “financial setbacks as a result of the Greek economic crisis.” for its struggles.
