Two Toronto police officers are accused of assaulting a man while he was in police custody last April.

The officers have been charged following an investigation by Ontario's Special Investigations Unit.

A parking enforcement officer was previously charged in the same incident, the SIU said in a news release.

The SIU said the victim was assaulted by a parking enforcement officer during a confrontation April 24.

The man was transported to 14 Division and later taken to St. Michael's Hospital, where he was diagnosed with facial fractures, according to the news release.

The SIU launched an investigation the same day after it was contacted by Toronto police.

According to the news release, the investigation found that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the man was assaulted by two officers while he was in police custody.

Police said constables Manpreet Kharbar and Paul Ramos have been charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Both are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 24.

Devon Henry, a parking enforcement officer, was previously charged by police with assault causing bodily harm.

Because he is a civilian member of the police service, he wasn't the focus of the SIU investigation.
