TORONTO - The impasse has loosened but a final decision awaits on a new Hamilton stadium to host events for the 2015 Pan Am Games.

Hamilton city officials and the city's Tiger Cats football team have been at odds over where to locate a new stadium.

The city wants it on West Harbour land as part of a downtown redevelopment, while the CFL team wants it near a highway.

The deadline to reach a decision was today, but that's been extended to August 12.

The extension comes in the wake of the owner of the Tiger Cats promising to put $74 million toward a new stadium.

The Toronto 2015 organizing team says they are encouraged by developments, and is holding a media conference call later today.

About 40 North and South American countries are expected to participate in the Games in Toronto and surrounding areas.
