A "young male" is in hospital after being struck by a taxicab in Burlington on Tuesday morning, Halton Regional Police say.

The crash occurred on Ghent Avenue at about 5:20 a.m., sending the pedestrian to Hamilton General Hospital with a serious head injury.

Investigators believe the pedestrian was intoxicated at the time he ran onto the street and into the path of the taxi, police said.

The cab driver remained at the scene after the collision.

Police said the collision was captured by a video camera mounted on the cab's dashboard.

Ghent Avenue was closed for five hours between Hager Avenue and Brant Street while police conducted an investigation at the scene.
