Toronto police say a 33-year-old woman who was hit by a vehicle at a Scarborough intersection earlier this week has died of her injuries.

The woman, whose name has not been released, died in hospital Tuesday, a day after she was struck by a sport utility vehicle at Steeles Avenue East and Birchmount Road, police said in a news release.

The crash occurred Monday, shortly after 8 a.m.

Police said the woman was hit by a Ford Escape that was heading east on Steeles Avenue in the curb lane as it approached Birchmount Road.

The driver, a 51-year-old woman, lost control of the vehicle, which mounted the curb and struck a bus shelter and pole before hitting the victim, who was walking southbound on the west side of Birchmount Road, police said.

The woman was dragged into the intersection, where the Ford Escape was struck by a car before it stopped.

No one has been charged.

Investigators want to speak to drivers who were on Steeles Avenue East at the time of the collision or who saw the Ford Escape prior to the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.
