A 24-year-old woman is dead and an 18-year-old man suffered serious head injuries as a result of the crash after a two-vehicle crash in Brampton Tuesday morning.

A minivan collided with a pick-up truck at the intersection of Queen Street and Torbram Road at around 10:15 a.m. One of the vehicles lost control and veered onto the sidewalk, striking the two pedestrians.

The woman was pinned underneath the vehicle and was without vital signs when rescuers managed to extract her.

Peel Regional Police initially said the woman died of her injuries but later corrected that information, saying the woman had a pulse and was receiving emergency medical care in hospital.

The woman was later pronounced dead in hospital, police said shortly before 1 p.m.

Emergency officials said the man suffered life-threatening injuries but his condition has since improved. He is now listed in stable condition.

Police have not said if either of the drivers are facing any charges.

The intersection of Queen and Torbram was closed for several hours while police surveyed the scene for evidence. It reopened just before 4 p.m.

Investigators are also looking to speak with any witnesses who may have information on how the crash occurred.
