Police arrest driver who fled crash

Ontario Provincial Police officers have arrested a man who allegedly fled the scene of a crash north of Toronto on Thursday morning.

OPP spokesman Sgt. Dave Woodford told CP24 the driver ran away after his vehicle was involved in a minor crash in Highway 400's southbound lanes near King Road.

Woodford said the vehicle rear-ended a tractor-trailer at about 5:15 a.m.

After the crash, the driver fled into a wooded area alongside the highway. Police set up a perimeter and brought in a canine unit to search for the person, who was later apprehended in Barrie.

Officer slightly injured in crash

A York Regional Police officer went to hospital as a precaution after his unmarked cruiser was involved in a three-vehicle crash Thursday.

Ontario Provincial Police said the officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred in Highway 404's southbound lanes near Elgin Mills Road at about 9 a.m.

OPP are investigating the cause of the crash.
