Police are investigating seven separate incidents in which women were robbed at gunpoint while on their way to work Friday morning.

The robberies took place in the vicinity of Spadina Avenue and Queen's Quay and Bloor and Christie streets.

According to Sgt. Barry White, a single male suspect approached his victims between 6:20 a.m. and 7 a.m., took out a black handgun and demanded they hand over cash and other personal possessions.

In at least one instance the suspect pointed the gun at the victim.

Police have set up a command post near Bloor and Christie streets as they investigate the muggings, some of which weren't reported to police until 30 or 40 minutes later.

"It's a little frustrating for us and I could sit here and say it took too long (to report the robberies), but I have never had a gun pointed at me," White told CP24 Friday morning.

The suspect is described as being white, about 30 years of age, with dark spiky hair and a scruffy beard. He was last seen wearing dark coloured clothing and reportedly smelled of alcohol and was smoking a cigarette during some of the robberies.

"He might have been drunk or at least drinking recently," White said.
