The family of a murdered Toronto police officer made an emotional plea for changes to the parole system on Wednesday.

The widow and three daughters of Const. Michael Sweet are calling for more transparency and accountability in the parole system.

They recently learned Sweet's killer, Craig Munro, is being allowed to temporarily leave the British Columbia prison where he is serving a life sentence for first-degree murder.

Michael Sweet bled to death in 1980 after being shot during a robbery on Queen Street West.

Sweet's daughters were one, four and six years old at the time their father was killed.
