Ontario's Special Investigations Unit says it is investigating the conduct of police officers during the arrest of an Occupy Toronto protester last week.

Occupy Toronto protesters are accusing police of brutality during the arrest of Angela Turvey on Friday outside Osgoode Hall.

Turvey, 36, suffered a broken nose and a fractured orbital bone.

Toronto police charged Turvey with obstructing a peace officer and assault with intent to resist arrest.

SIU officials said in a news release Monday they learned about the incident through media reports. They made several inquiries and decided the agency would invoke its mandate and investigate the protesters' claims.

Three investigators and one forensic investigator is looking into this incident on behalf of the SIU.

The SIU is asking for any witnesses to come forward and contact the lead investigator at 416-622-2314 or 1-800-787-8529 ext. 2314.

The SIU probes any incident where a civilian is killed, sexually assaulted or seriously injured while in the presence of police.
