TORONTO - Freezing rain prompted several southern Ontario school boards to cancel school buses this morning, while some boards also cancelled classes.

And stiff winds have been blamed for outages that left almost 9,000 Hydro One customers without power.

Environment Canada says temperatures will be going up and down today as the region is hit with a mixed bag of winter weather.

A low pressure system is delivering rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain -- some areas could received 15 to 30 millimetres of rain.

A freezing rain warning has been issued for the Peterborough-Kawartha Lakes area east to the Quebec boundary.

Areas northeast of Georgian Bay toward the Quebec boundary will get five to 10 centimetres of snow by this afternoon.

In Toronto, the rain was expected to clear in the morning, but there is a 60 per cent chance of flurries once the temperature drops below freezing, Environment Canada says.
