LONDON - The son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has been sentenced to 16 months in prison for participating in a rampage during student protests that included an attack on a royal convoy.
Charlie Gilmour was among thousands of students who demonstrated on Dec. 9 against rising university tuition fees. Some protesters broke away from the main demonstration and attacked cars accompanying the Rolls-Royce of Prince Charles and his wife, Camilla.
Gilmour caused particular offence by hanging from a Union flag on the Cenotaph, the most prominent memorial to British war dead.
Judge Nicholas Price said the 21-year-old Gilmour could be released after eight months in jail.
He would start the sentence after completing his final exams at Cambridge University.
