Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the City of Toronto and several other surrounding communities for Tuesday.

The statement, issued just before 5 p.m., also includes the City of Hamilton, Halton, Peel, York and Durham.

According to Environment Canada, these areas are the most likely to experience a mix of wet snow and rain beginning Tuesday afternoon and continuing into Wednesday morning.

An Arctic cold front that will cross southern and eastern Ontario Tuesday will bring cold air and temperatures near and below freezing, potentially leaving surfaces like roads and sidewalk slick and hazardous.

Snow expected in eastern Ontario

Cities and towns in eastern Ontario could be in for some shoveling Wednesday morning.

A winter storm watch has been issued for regions including Ottawa, Cornwall and Brockville, where up to 10 centimetres of snow is possible Tuesday night.
