Toronto played Eastern Conference-leading D.C. United to a scoreless draw on Saturday, TFC's final game at full strength for awhile.

Toronto (7-6-2) loses five players for the next two games at the very least -- captain Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore will be with the U.S. squad, while Jonathan Osorio, Ashtone Morgan and goalkeeper Quillan Roberts will be with the Canadian squad in Gold Cup action.

Three days after Toronto fans were treated to a 3-1 win over Montreal in what had to be one of the team's most entertaining performances, Saturday was exactly the opposite.

Players on both sides had trouble putting passes together in the relentless rain, with wind gusts that had the players' shorts flapping like flags. An announced crowd of just 16,382 braved the blustery conditions at BMO Field.

Toronto controlled the majority of the play, and 'keeper Chris Konopka had little to do for most of the afternoon, especially in the second half. But the sloppy conditions and physical play had both teams looking frustrated.

Sebastian Giovinco, once again, produced numerous scoring opportunities. In the 29th minute, the tiny Italian sprinted onto a ball to just save it from going off the end line, then launched a cross that Altidore headed over the net.

Nine minutes later, he spotted Osorio with a cross at the top of the box. Osorio's left-footed shot rolled just inches wide of the post.

In the 63rd minute, Giovinco cut through two defenders before getting off a shot that sailed over the crossbar. Four minutes later he launched a long shot that D.C.'s 'keeper Bill Hamid had to dive to save.

Toronto's best chance perhaps came in the 84th minute when Giovinco fought to get off a pass to Bradley inside the box. The midfielder lunged but missed getting a foot on it, falling to the pitch where he lay, frustrated, for several seconds.

Toronto defeated its opponent earlier this month in a 2-1 win that ended United's 16-game unbeaten streak at home.

Toronto plays the next two games on the road, against the Galaxy in L.A. next Saturday, then at expansion New York City FC on July 12. TFC hosts Philadelphia on July 18.
