ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Brendan Leipsic scored the eventual winner less than a minute into the third period while on the power play as the Toronto Marlies downed the host Rochester Americans 3-1 on Friday in American Hockey League action.

Leipsic has produced seven points in his last three games after totalling only one assist in his previous 13 outings.

Sam Carrick and Connor Brown also scored for the Marlies (35-27-9), who got a 21-save outing from goaltender Christopher Gibson. Defenceman T.J. Brennan chipped in with two assists.

Dan Catenacci broke up Gibson's shutout bid when he scored at 18:43 of the third period for the Americans (28-38-6).

Rochester's Andrey Makorov kicked out 28-of-30 shots in a losing cause.

Toronto went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Americans failed to convert on two chances with the man advantage.
