The York Federation of Students has created a special relief fund for students who are finding it hard to pay the bills because of an ongoing strike that cancelled classes for 50,000 students.

Classrooms have been empty for over two months and many parents and students say they've had enough as the strike drags on.

University representatives say they have no intention of returning any tuition fees or out-of-pocket expenses to the students.

Linda Eden and her 18-year-old daughter, Paige Eden, say they've been wasting money renting an apartment near the university.

"I don't think the university was really being unfair to the TAs. I think the TAs are kind of taking it out of proportion a little bit," says Paige Eden.

Under the YFS fund, students will be eligible for up to $100 dollars in relief.

University representatives say they have no intention of returning any tuition fees or out-of-pocket expenses.

York officials say the school year may be extended into May, exam periods will be shortened and reading week will be cancelled.

Today is also the deadline for Grade 12 students in Ontario to send in their university applications.
