Toronto police say a 26-year-old man accused of stealing three poppy boxes from shops in Etobicoke turned himself in early Monday morning to face criminal charges.

The thefts occurred at a Pizza Nova on The Queensway on Oct. 31, a Coffee Time on Lake Shore Boulevard West last Thursday and a Pizza Pizza also located on Lake Shore Boulevard West on an unspecified date, police said Monday.

A police spokesman said the man is in custody after turning himself in at 22 Division headquarters.

Thomas Hvozdar, 26, is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday morning at 10 a.m.

Hvozdar was with his mom when he turned himself in, police said.

It's not known how much money the boxes contained.

Police said Hvozdar is charged with three counts of theft under $5,000. He also faces one charge of breach of recognizance.

Police released a surveillance image of the suspect last week after the first theft was reported.

Poppy box thefts have also been reported in Hamilton and Oshawa.
