Firefighters found a lot more than flames when they battled a house fire that broke out in Mississauga on Tuesday morning.

Crews found a suspected marijuana grow operation when they responded to a home on Duchess Drive at about 6:30 a.m.

Peel Regional Police arrested a male at the scene after he escaped the burning structure. He was the lone occupant.

Police haven't released any details about the male or the number of pot plants that were found in the basement of the home.

Heavy smoke was reportedly pouring out of a second-floor window when fire crews arrived on scene.

In the pouring rain, firefighters are now trying to bring the blaze under control.

Paramedics are heading to the scene as a precaution, but there are no reports of any injuries.
