BRAMPTON, Ont. - A man found guilty in the Toronto 18 terror plot says he wanted to know the details of the planned bombings so he could stop them if he felt he needed to.

Shareef Abdelhaleem, 34, was found guilty last week of terrorism offences, but a conviction wasn't entered as the defence is arguing an entrapment motion.

The Crown's only witness was Shaher Elsohemy, a police informant who testified about Abdelhaleem's involvement, but Abdelhaleem says it was Elsohemy who actively got him involved.

Abdelhaleem says the reason he was associating with the ringleader of the plot was to learn the details from him so he could "sabotage" the plot.

But Abdelhaleem has also testified about suggestions he made for the plot, such as putting wax over the door of the warehouse where they were storing the chemicals, so they would know if anyone entered.

He says he believed Elsohemy and the ringleader were the main people involved in the plot and that he was an "outsider."
