Toronto police say they have moved the G20 designated protest area away from Trinity Bellwoods Park, but a replacement has not been named.

The plan had irked residents near the park, which is roughly two kilometres from the site of the G20 meetings at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

It's a haven for dog walkers and serves as a sprawling green space for the downtown Queen West and Liberty Village areas.

After community consultations, police have decided the park at Queen and Strachan Streets isn't the best location for a protest staging ground.

Last year's G20 meeting in London also used a designated protest zone.

Police say they are currently considering alternate options.
