The TTC is now limiting token sales to five per customer, while its riders are preparing to abandon the red rocket for a day of protest.

Tokens were limited at five on Monday, just three days after the TTC began limiting token sales at 10.

Demand for the tokens has skyrocketed since last week, after TTC staff recommended a fare increase for 2010.

The thought on raised rates has not sat well with many riders, and one started a Facebook group rallying users to find a different way around Toronto on Friday.

Ground organizer Nicole KT Winchester wrote that an increase could “make enough of a difference for (some people) to abandon the TTC altogether.” The “rider’s strike” is meant to show the TTC how much it would be affected by reduced ridership.
