NYON, Switzerland - UEFA kicked Volos out of the Europa League on Thursday because of the Greek club's involvement in a match-fixing scandal.
Volos was scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain in a playoff tie on Aug. 18 and 25.
UEFA said its disciplinary committee banned Volos from European competitions for an additional three years "deferred for a probationary period of five seasons."
Volos can appeal the decision by Monday -- three days before it was due to host PSG in the first leg.
UEFA later reinstated Luxembourg's Differdange, which lost to Volos 6-0 on aggregate in the third qualifying round.
UEFA rejected the option of giving PSG a bye, stating that "there is a clear sporting interest in all club competition matches being played."
Europa League rules require that clubs have not helped fix a match in the past five seasons.
Volos qualified by finishing fifth in the Greek league last season, then was demoted to the second tier by league organizers last month.
Volos overturned that ruling at a Greek soccer association appeal hearing Wednesday. However, it will start the new season with a 10-point penalty.
The club's chairman, who faces charges of match-fixing and money laundering, lost his appeal against a life ban.
Greece has sought emergency assistance from UEFA to deal with corruption in soccer and hasn't ruled out delaying the start of the new season, scheduled for Aug. 27.
More than 60 club officials, players, businessmen and others are under investigation in the Greek corruption probe. Ten people are in custody.
Greece is among several European countries investigating widespread match-fixing and betting scandals, including Italy and Turkey.
Turkish title holder Fenerbahce is set to take its place in the lucrative group stage of UEFA's marquee Champions League competition despite being at the centre of a fixing scandal.
UEFA has promised a zero-tolerance fight against corruption and said it will kick out any team -- even midway through a competition -- if corruption is proven.
