A blast of winter weather is expected to hit Toronto on Sunday, prompting Environment Canada to issue a special weather statement for the city.
In its advisory, the federal agency said a Colorado low will move across the region, possibly dumping five to 10 centimetres of snow.
Areas near Lake Ontario could see less accumulation because the snow will be very wet, Environment Canada said.
Other areas in the GTA, including Peel, Halton, York and Durham, are also under a special weather statement.
The federal agency said Sunday's "significant snowfall" could affect travel, urging motorists to be prepared for winter weather driving conditions.
"This is tracking to be our first winter event of the year," city spokesperson Eric Holmes said in an interview with CP24 Saturday evening. "We're planning for everything. We're ready for everything."
Holmes said the city's north end is expected to see accumulation while the downtown core could see more rain than snow.
"We'll have the equipment ready. It'll be out. It'll be clearing snow. It'll be clearing ice and making the road safe," he said.
"If you're not comfortable being out on the road and if you're not comfortable travelling, certainly stay home. Avoid the roads."
The high for Sunday will be 2 C, with a wind chill of -3 in the morning.
Environment Canada said the snow will taper off overnight.
On Monday, it will be a mix of sun and cloud with a 40 per cent chance of showers. The high will be 5 C.
