A wind warning has been issued for Toronto, the GTA and much of southern Ontario ahead of Christmas Eve.

Winds could gust up to 90 kilometres an hour in some areas overnight, which is strong enough to cause injury and property damage. The windy conditions are expected to persist throughout Christmas Day.

“Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage,” Environment Canada said in a special weather statement Wednesday morning. “Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions due to high winds.”

Along with the high winds, the GTA should expect periods of rain, patchy fog and a few thunderstorms tonight. The actual temperature will be fairly mild, reaching a high of 10 C, however, the winds will make it feel cooler tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow’s high is expected to reach 4 C and 5 C on Boxing Day.

"It's looking like a Vancouver Christmas and those temperatures will make it feel tropical in a way," Environment Canada's Senior Climatologist Dave Phillips told CP24 Wednesday afternoon.

The mixed weather we've experienced so far should continue throughout the winter season, he said.

"We'll see more of a mix, more of a yo-yo type of winter," he said. "It makes winter shorter when you have more of a mixed bag."
