A 16-year-old boy turned himself in to police Monday after being on the run for nearly two weeks following a shooting at a Scarborough high school.

The boy, whose name can not be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with numerous firearms-related offences, including:

  • robbery while armed with a firearm'
  • discharging a firearm, endangering life
  • careless use of a firearm
  • pointing a firearm
  • possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
  • aggravated assault
  • failure to appear in court
  • failure to comply with a recognizance

The teen is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday morning.

Police began searching for the newly arrested suspect after another teenager was shot in the abdomen outside Bendale Business and Technical Institute on Sept. 16 during the lunch break.

The victim, 16, was also arrested and charged with robbery with a firearm two days later. He is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

A third suspect, 18-year-old Mark Deicsics was charged with robbery while armed with a firearm and failure to comply with a recognizance.

The shooting took place after a physical altercation between several young men near the school's parking lot. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots outside the building shortly before the victim was found inside a school hallway.

Bendale Business and Technical Institute is a high school run by the Toronto District School Board. It focuses on hands-on learning, personal management skills and career development.
