TORONTO -- Germany's Ursula Schulz-Dornburg has won the 2016 Aimia/AGO Photography Prize.
The Berlin-born, Dusseldorf-based photographer was selected by public vote and will receive $50,000.
The three runners-up -- Talia Chetrit of the U.S., Jimmy Robert of France and Vancouver's Elizabeth Zvonar -- will each receive $5,000 to support their photography practices.
Voting took place in person at the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto and on the prize's website at https://www.aimiaagophotographyprize.com.
The four finalists have had their work showcased at an exhibition at the AGO, which will remain on display until Jan. 1. The works can also be viewed on the prize website.
The award is co-presented by the Art Gallery of Ontario and Aimia, a data-driven marketing and loyalty analytics company.
Schulz-Dornburg has used the house as a central image in her work since the end of the 1960s. Her images have also captured the historical and political importance of architecture and its destruction within the last century, exploring the relationship between industrial and architectural structures, land and human beings around the world.
Her extensive travels have taken her to locales including Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Syria.
Schulz-Dornburg's work has also recently been included in exhibitions at the Tate Modern in London and Giorgio Mastinu Gallery in Venice.
