Police have arrested a 47-year-old man in connection with the violent robbery of a woman at a Scarborough bank last month.

Police previously said that the woman was depositing money in an ATM at a bank in the Midland Avenue and Sheppard Avenue East area at around 9:15 p.m. on July 26 when she was approached by two unknown men.

At that point, police said that one of the men asked the woman how to use a debit card and then demanded that she hand over her purse.

When the woman refused, police say the man grabbed her by the throat. The woman then handed over her purse and both men subsequently fled the scene, according to police.

Mark Hewitt, of no fixed address, was arrested on Thursday and charged with robbery and failure to comply with probation.

Police continue to search for the second suspect wanted in the case.
