Nobody was injured after a large blaze destroyed a home under construction in Thornhill Sunday evening.

Vaughan Fire communications told CP24 at least 24 firefighters faced the blaze, on Thornridge Drive near the intersection of Yonge and Centre streets.

York Regional Police said surrounding homes were evacuated as a precaution. Thornridge Drive was also closed to all traffic. Calls about the fire started coming into police just before 6:30 p.m. Police said that the fire also damaged neighbouring homes.

Firefighters said they do not believe anyone was inside the home.

Damage has been estimated in the millions, police said.

Powerstream said that at one point the blaze knocked out power to 84 nearby homes.

It's not yet clear how the fire started. Police said work was being done on the roof, but it's not clear if there was any connection to the fire.
