An impaired driver was taken into custody after he was pulled over after being clocked at more than 130 km/h above the posted speed limit on Highway 401 early Sunday morning.

The Porsche SUV was travelling eastbound on Highway 401 near Whites Road in Pickering when an officer clocked it at 233 km/h, Ontario Provincial Police say.

The officer then contacted other officers over the radio to warn them about the vehicle, which was ultimately pulled over near Whitby at around 4 a.m.

A 29-year-old man was arrested at the scene and will be charged with dangerous driving, stunt driving and impaired driving.

The man is being held in custody for a bail hearing because he has outstanding warrants for not appearing in court, according to the OPP.
