A driver was ejected from his car after it collided with a transport truck in Brampton overnight and police say they suspect drunk driving may have caused the crash.

Peel police say they are trying to determine whether alcohol was a factor but say so far, no charges have been laid.

The crash happened in Brampton, just before 1 a.m. on Steeles Avenue near the Highway 407 bridge. When police arrived on the scene, a man was lying on the roadway, Const. George Tudos told CP24.

Emergency crews were able to stabilize the man’s injuries and he was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The crash created a field of debris on the road, forcing police to shut down Steeles Ave., between Airport Road and Torbram,  to traffic. However, the area was expected to clear by 6 a.m.
