A dump truck driver was trapped in his vehicle for a few hours Thursday morning after it brought down hydro poles and live wires on Bayview Avenue, just north of York Mills Road.

The driver was unable to exit the vehicle because the wires were draped over the top of the truck.

Hydro crews responded to turn off the power supply and free the driver. Two cars came to a stop nearby, but the occupants were able to safely exit those vehicles.

Toronto police spokesman Const. Victor Kwong said the dump truck’s box was in the upright position as the vehicle travelled along Bayview.

The box snagged some overhead wires, bringing them and at least two poles to the ground.

Charges are pending against the dump truck driver, Kwong told CP24.

No injuries were reported.

Bayview is expected to be closed until at least midnight, police said.
