An escaped peacock that became a social media sensation after wandering away from the High Park Zoo last week has returned home.
According to a supervisor with the west-end park, the peacock returned to the zoo on its own after being spotted at a number of locations throughout the west end over the last five days.
The peacock is currently in the bison pen at the zoo, but officials are hopeful that it will soon make its way back to the peacock pen.
The return of the colourful bird comes several days after Toronto Animal Services suspended their hunt for the animal out of concern that it would be scared further away.
During its time on the lam, the peacock became a social media starlet with residents in the Roncesvalles Avenue and Parkdale areas posting numerous pictures of the bird on top of roofs, trees and crossing the street.
On Wednesday as news of the bird's return home spread many also took to social media to express their relief, with Mayor John Tory suggesting that the peacock may have just needed "a little vacation."
Update: the #TorontoPeacock is back at #HighParkZoo! He's currently in the bison pen, but will hopefully fly back to his own shortly.

Happy to report that the peacock from @HighParkZoo is visiting the bisons this morning. So just a hop skip and a jump and he will be home.
