The fire marshall has been called in to investigate after a three-alarm blaze gutted an Etobicoke seafood store early Saturday morning.

The blaze broke out at North Fish Company Ltd. on Six Point Road near Kipling Ave. and Norseman St. at around 7:15 a.m. and was quickly upgraded to a two-alarm and then three-alarm call.

After checking the building for occupants, firefighters on the scene retreated out of fear for their safety and battled the blaze from outside.

The fire wasn't considered to be under control until early Saturday afternoon.

“There was smoke in the front office area here and our crews went in through the office and started working their way back and did find a lot more fire in the back part of the building and were forced out when walls started collapsing and it (the flames) went through the roof,” Division Commander Bob O'Hallarn told CP24 at the scene Saturday morning. “We pulled people out and went defensive. We don’t even have anybody down on the right hand side there because we are certain that the wall is going to come down at some point soon.”

The fire caused the southeast corner of the building and much of the roof to collapse.

According to O'Hallarn the building will likely be a “total loss”.

“This was a business that was viable I am sure and there is going to be quite a large loss,” he said. “I don’t know what the loss will be yet with the building and the contents but obviously it’s going to be a total loss.”

Nobody was injured as a result of the fire.

Crews are expected to remain at the scene through the afternoon.

"We are dealing with hot spots right now," Platoon Chief Len Stadler told CP24 at the scene. "The roofing material is on fire but with the collapse of the roof it is difficuilt to get at."
