Firefighters are currently at the scene of an industrial fire in Richmond Hill.

York Regional Police said emergency crews were called to the fire at an abandoned factory located on Yonge Street, north of Crosby Avenue, at around 7 p.m.

The fire is currently under control, with firefighters working to extinguish hotspots. Crews were forced to evacuate the building and tackle the fire from the exterior after the roof became unstable.

“The safety of the emergency workers is the priority right now,” York police Insp. Jim MacSween told CP24 at the scene.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known. No injuries have been reported.

Yonge Street is currently closed between Crosby Avenue and Trayborn Drive. The closure is expected to last several hours, MacSween said.
