Newly released documents allege that Mayor Rob Ford was intoxicated at city hall in the weeks before he announced that he would seek help for alcohol addiction at a rehab facility.

The report, obtained by CP24, was written by security staff at city hall on Easter Monday – just nine days before the mayor announced he would take his leave.

According to the report, an unknown woman appeared at city hall around 7:50 p.m. on April 21 and said she was there to see the mayor.

When the security guard went to the mayor’s office, Ford told him to “bring her up,” the report says.

“The Mayor appeared to be intoxicated as he was slurring his words, red in the face, and sweating profusely,” the report says.

The guard noted that the woman left city hall around 8:40 p.m.

Security camera footage taken about an hour later shows Ford stumbling as a security guard helps him get into the passenger side of his vehicle in the parking garage. Ford was then driven away by his brother, Coun. Doug Ford, according to the security guard.

The city has previously released security reports from city hall including the names of the guards who wrote them. However the guard’s name, as well as the name of the unknown visitor, have been redacted from the latest report.

Asked about the events in question, Coun. Doug Ford told CP24 “I’m not interested in talking about the past.”

Ford is currently seeking treatment for alcohol addiction at a rehab facility in Muskoka. In published interviews, he has vowed to return to work on Canada Day, July 1.
