GO train service has been disrupted along a stretch of the Lakeshore East line following an incident involving a pedestrian in Scarborough.

It happened near the Rouge Hill GO Station. The circumstances surrounding the incident – which involved a VIA train – were not immediately clear.

The pedestrian was killed, Metrolinx spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins confirmed.

“As a result, service on this line will be modified,” GO Transit said in a service update on its website.

Trains will be operating between Union and Guildwood stations. Between Guildwood and Pickering stations buses will supplement service. Trains will operate between Pickering and Oshawa stations as normal, GO Transit said.

“It’s very difficult for everyone involved,” Aikins said of the situation.

“Our customers, our staff, the police – everyone that participates in investigating a fatally and are impacted by it.”

The service disruption is expected to last up to two hours.
