The rush hour commute is about to get a whole lot quieter for some GO Transit riders.

Following a successful trial run on its Barrie line, GO Transit has announced that it will add quite zone sections to trains on all seven lines it operates during the morning and evening rush Monday to Friday.

The quiet zone will be located on the upper level of all trains.

Passengers in the section will be urged to turn the volume on their cell phones and other electronic devices off and refrain from engaging in loud conversations.

“If your cell phone rings by all means feel free to answer it; we are only asking that the conversation be kept short and then that you tuck away your cellphone and if you want to make it a longer conversation just move into the mezzanine or bottom floor,” GO Transit Vice President of Customer Service Mary Proc told CP24 Monday. “It is only the top level that we are designating a quiet zone in order to leave the other two levels to passengers that want to be social on their trips.”

The rush hour commute includes all trains departing before 9:30 a.m. or between 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
