Police are taking steps to ensure traffic moves smoothly in the downtown core tonight as 50,000 people are expected to attend a much-anticipated Jays game.

The Toronto Blue Jays will host the New York Yankees at the Rogers Centre tonight at 4:07 p.m. and police say road closures will be in effect to “assist with the safe exit of pedestrians and motorists leaving the area.”

Police are urging people to carpool or use public transit to get to the game and are also asking people who don’t have tickets to avoid the area around the Rogers Centre.

Those who are travelling by taxi or Uber are being asked to walk from Front Street West, east of Blue Jays Way.

The following road closures will be in effect:

  • Blue Jays Way will have a partial road closure for southbound traffic, from Front Street West to Navy Wharf Court
  •
  • Bremner Boulevard will have a partial road closure, for eastbound traffic, from Spadina Avenue to Rees Street
  •
  • Bremner Boulevard will have a full road closure, for eastbound traffic, from Rees Street to Lower Simcoe Street
  •
  • Bremner Boulevard will have a full road closure, for westbound traffic, from Lower Simcoe Street to Navy Wharf Court
  •
  • Spadina Avenue will have a full road closure for southbound traffic, from Front Street West to Lake Shore Boulevard

The Ontario Universities' Fair will be on at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre south building on Saturday and Sunday until 5 p.m., likely adding foot traffic in the area ahead of the game.
