VANCOUVER -- There has not been an increase in heatstroke cases in some Lower Mainland hospitals, despite an ongoing provincewide heat wave expected to set record temperatures.

Dave Lefebvre of Vancouver Coastal Health and Providence Health Care says there has not been any word of more patients with the condition in St. Paul's Hospital.

Aletta Vanderheyden of Fraser Health says there have been no increase in reports of patients with heatstroke in 12 of the authority's hospitals.

But Vanderheyden says that could change as the heat wave continues.

Environment Canada says record-high temperatures are expected in the south coast of B.C. this weekend.

Temperatures in the northern half of the province are expected to break records next week.
