HALIFAX -- Another Canadian warship has been hit by an engine room fire on the high seas.

A release from the Royal Canadian Navy says the crew of HMCS Kingston doused a "minor" engine room fire late Saturday morning while the ship was sailing for Halifax after a six week mission in the Caribbean.

The release says sailors used fire extinguishers to quickly put out what appears to have been an electrical fire, and that there were no injuries.

It says the Kingston and HMCS Glace Bay, which also took part in the Caribbean mission, are still expected to arrive in Halifax on Wednesday.

The Kingston-class vessel, which has a crew of 36 and is designed for patrolling coastal waters, did not request any assistance.

As with all fires aboard Canadian naval vessels, there will be an investigation to determine the cause.

In February an engine room fire aboard H-M-C-S Protecteur raged for 11 hours and left the 45 year old supply ship adrift in the Pacific.

Protecteur was towed back to Hawaii, where it is now being prepared to be towed to its home port of Esquimalt, B.C..
